However, there’s no dedicated team performing maintenance on the platform anymore. If you head to the support forum, you might find someone in the community who could assist you with a minor glitch or problem. The main issue is that NMM won’t receive any more updates or focused support from Nexus Mods. Nexus Mod Manager isn’t dead to the community as yet. You can access mods for the games in its portfolio, letting you make changes to many of your favorite old titles. While Vortex has taken the limelight for the past few years, NMM is still available to download and install on Windows. Since then, modders and fans alike have been moving from the old to the new utility. Vortex finally released in 2018 for that purpose, featuring several new functions that NMM was unable to perform. Nexus Mods decided that it’d be easier to develop a completely new mod manager than to continue fixing the archaic platform. It became increasingly more challenging to maintain the system with the constant bug fixes. Besides the outdated software, Nexus Mods hired the developer of Skyrim Mod Organizer, Tannin, to improve NMM. Several reasons appeared for this decision. In 2016, Nexus Mods informed the community that NMM had reached ‘End-of-Line’ (EOL) status, meaning that they were moving towards discontinuing support while developing a new version. The name changed to Nexus Mods Manager in 2015, but the platform and mechanics remained the same. The original modding system created by Robin Scott dates back to 2006 when he started TESSource for the Oblivion Mod Manager. ![]() The open-source manager is safe to use, even with it not receiving any more updates. A few names worth mentioning are The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 4, and Kingdom Come: Deliverance. You can create modifications for well-known titles on the platform. This is ultra useful when you have no choice but to format your system, I have just way too many mods that I customized along the way and simply can't remember how to do it again, so it would take forevah to reinstall every single thing. Go to where the loadorder.txt and plugins.txt files are located and overwrite them with the ones from your Backup\Plugins folder. ini files are located and overwrite them with the ones from your backup in Backup\ini. While still in your NMM game's folder, go in to the Mods folder and delete the ModProfiles and VirtualModActivator folders if they exist. Then copy the contents of your Backup\Install Info folder in to it. Go to your NMM folder for that game, open the Install Info folder and delete everything that's in this folder. Go to your the game's Data folder and copy the contents of your Backup\Data folder to it (overwriting if asked) Restoring NMM back to your backup settings Copy (not move) the loadorder.txt and plugins.txt files to your Backup\Plugins folder you previously created. You might need to find this folder by using the address bar if you have not turned on hidden files in your computer settings. C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Skyrim for Skyrim). My Documents\My Games\Skyrim for Skyrim) and copy (not move) the Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini files in to your Backup\ini folder.
